What is Something Ordinary?

Farewell, and Looking for a New Bassist [Wed, August 09, 2006 @ 10am CST] by: band

PART I

Hello Friends,

I’m bringing you some sad news today. Something Ordinary and I have decided to part ways. Why you may ask? Well, in case you haven’t noticed, things are going very well for S.O. From an impressive third round Emergenza showing at the Double Door to several great shows at Cubby Bear, to the release of the stellar “Speak in Shadows” EP. Something Ordinary is ready to go to the next level. I let the guys know about a year or so ago that I could not commit to touring, and touring and possible full time musicianship appears to be the next step for the band over the next year or so.

S.O. has wisely decided to find a bassist now that can better commit to the future of the band. I have loved being a part of this band, but I feel very called to the work I am doing now at Lawndale Christian Development Corporation, and full-time music is not an option for me. I am very proud of the music we have made and I consider it a blessing to have been the first bassist for Something Ordinary and to have been a part of taking the band to where it is now. Thanks to all the fans who made our shows so much fun, and thanks to my bandmates for making the music so good!

I will be staying with the band until a replacement bassist is found and ready to take over. See part II if you are a bassist looking for a great opportunity.

Many Blessings to you all,
Karl
Erstwhile Something Ordinary Bassist and Forever Something Ordinary Fan

PART II
Here is what Gary, Joel and Jay are looking for in a bassist.

We are looking for a dedicated bassist to gig, tour and record. Our influences span from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Coldplay. We are searching for someone with the ability to develop parts for existing songs and the creativity to help write new material. Vocal ability is a plus, but not mandatory. Any prospectives should have their own means of transportation for their equipment, etc. We are looking for someone in the 20 - 26 year age range who enjoys a wide variety of music, and will be as driven as we are to promote shows, and get our music out there. We are committed to work our way futher into the local Chicago music scene, and the region, and we are searching for a bassist with the talent, time, and drive to help us do that.

If this sounds like you, our contact information is on the booking page.
Best of luck to you,
Karl

Hello Darlings,
Karl here with some well deserved thanks for those of you who made friday night such a great show. It was amazing to see the number of people who came out to support us. Your energy made it one of our best shows ever! It was especially good to get to meet some of you personally. Whether the long time fans, or those who came to see another band and came by to chat after our set, it was great to talk to you!
Special thanks to Justin at Duff Entertainment who put together a great bill of bands for us to play with and made everything run so smoothly, the gentleman whose name I didn't get who saved us from ruin when Gary's amp went down, Red Wanting Blue, Stellar Road, the lovely ladies at the merchandise table and of course to the Cubby Bear and staff.
As you probably noticed, our entire set was filmed on two cameras! Special thanks to Roger and Georgina of Masa Pictures for going the extra mile for us. Keep checking this site for updates on the status of this project.
Fineally, thanks to those of you who picked up our new EP "Speak in Shadows". It means so much to us that you enjoy our music. Love it, listen to it, play it for your friends...For those of you who didn't get a CD, they are available at CD Baby and the Aware Store.
All this to say "Thank You so Much", you all make it fun to be in a rock band!
Love,
Karl

Emergenza is an international battle of the bands with groups from all over the country vying for 4 spots. 4 bands from the USA will get a chance to go to Germany to compete in the international finals.

Our first step is Thursday February 9, 2006 at the Note @ 1565 N. Milwaukee Ave. (Near Milwaukee/Damen/North intersection) @11:30 pm

We are selling tickets for this show, which you can get by reaching us at info@somethingordinary.com. Ticket price is $10. We haven’t played out or seen most of you in a while. Visit www.emergenza.net when you get the chance and see how huge this whole contest is. We're back... Ready for Round 2... [Mon, August 22, 2005 @ 4pm CST] by: band

Good afternoon Darlings...
Good News for you today. Gary's hand is mended and we are going to play out again. This wednesday we have an unofficial show at Loylola University. We don't know yet know if there is a cover or not, wether or not non-Loyola folks are invited (who needs an invitation!) or if it is really just an elaborate trap by the Jesuits to kidnap us and steal our Rock and Roll.
What we do know is that, lured by money and the potential adoration of co-eds, this Wednesday at 9:00 PM we will be in the Rainbow Room inside the "Centennial Forum Student Union" building. (corner of Loyola and Sheridan, right acoss from the Loyola redline station). Special invites to the "Lovely ladies" and YFC kids, you all know who you are. See you all soon. Karl

Delayed thanks and a Trajedy... [Tue, August 16, 2005 @ 11am CST] by: band

Good Morning

It's been along time since I posted here... I want to give some much delayed and deserved thanks to all the folks who came out and made the Cubby Bear one of the best, most enjoyable shows we have played in a long time! Special thanks to the ladies who were particularly vocal in support of our frontman(Gary is HOT isn't he!).

Trajecdy! In other news Gary has broken his finger playing ball, and that's why we haven't been playing out since then. Never fear there is hope. The finger is healing and shows are coming.....

Til next time,
Karl
